Scheduling Information for 2020-2021

Plans for scheduling for next year have begun!!  The NBTHS Guidance Dept. has been visiting English classes to give out information for scheduling next year.  Below are links for the documents in case anything is lost.  

Counselors will be meeting with students during their Physical Education classes beginning on Tuesday, January 21.  During this meeting the Elective Choice form will be collected.  Please look at both sides of the sheet and be prepared!!!

College Representative Visits to NBTHS

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Over 40 college representatives have already scheduled their visits to NBTHS this fall. Please register on Naviance to meet with them during the school day and use the email confirmation you receive as your pass.  Go to your Naviance account, click on “Colleges” and then “Research Colleges” then click on “College Visits” Remember-Use your email confirmation as your pass out of class.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the colleges that are of interest to you and meet the representative who will be reading your application!!

SENIORS: COLLEGE APPLICATION INFO.

Seniors: It’s time to begin thinking about your college applications.  Use the steps/links below to assist you with this process.  School Counselors will meet with you in September to discuss this process and help you with your college applications. You should finalize your list of colleges and be ready to begin your applications in September!!

1. You should review all of the information about the college admissions process- click on the following link:  Senior Planning Guide

2.If you are ready to begin your applications, go to the NBTHS Livebinder to find information about planning for college, forms you may need and paying for college.  All are found in the “Grade 12” sections which are light blue tabs.  

One of the most helpful documents can be found in the “Grade 12 College Planning/Naviance” tab, click on the link for “Step-by Step College Application Directions” for an easy path to understanding the process from beginning to end.

All forms needed for college applications can be found in the light blue “Grade 12 College Forms” tab in the  NBTHS Livebinder .  There you will find Teacher and Counselor recommendation forms, transcript request forms etc.

4. Use the NBTHS Livebinder  tabs for “Grade 12-College Planning/Naviance” and  “Grade 12- Paying for College/FAFSA/Scholarships” tabs for more information about financial aid.

5. Remember your colleges need to be managed using Naviance.  You can click on the link for Naviance  or download the app.  Don’t forget your username is your school email address (id number@nbtschools.org) and your password can be reset using the site if your forgot it.

Final Grades and Summer School Info.

Grades are being posted in Genesis and will be finalized by June 25th.  

Log in to your student/parent portal account to view your final grades.  If a student failed a class, a letter will be posted in his/her Genesis account.  The following link will give you the information about summer school FINAL Failure Letter 2019

Final transcripts will be sent to colleges and the NCAA by June 27.

Now that the 4th marking period is underway, less than 38 days of school until final exams begin!!

  • Remember each marking period is worth 22% of your final grade and the final exam is worth 12% 
  • That means between now and June 25th there is still 34% of your final grade yet to be determined…
  • Read, write, review and study….you are almost there!

Junior Parent College Presentation

The PTSO will host a presentation by the NBTHS Guidance Department on college planning at their meeting on Monday, April 8th at 7:30pm.  The presentation is intended for parents of current Juniors but all are invited to learn about the college process.  The PTSO meets in the MRC at NBTHS……see you there!

Financial Aid Night- FAFSA

The Guidance Department & College Insights will host a College Financial Aid Night focusing on filing the FAFSA on Tuesday, 12/4 from 6-7 pm in the COMMONS. This program is geared towards parents of seniors planning to enroll in college in the fall of 2019. Please join us!

Need Help with Financial Aid for college?

Do you need help filling out the FAFSA? Faculty from the Middlesex County College Financial Aid Department will be on hand to help you fill out the FAFSA. (You do not have to be attending MCC next fall)
If you would like to attend, you will need to do 2 things.
#1– Pick a date from the two choices below.  Click on the link to sign-up which will take you to a simple form to fill out. Once completed you will be registered.  There is only space for 25 participants for each date so please register asap.

Thurs. Nov. 15 from 6-8pm    Nov. 15 FAFSA Help Session 6-8pm Sign-up
A confirmation email to those who are registered for the event by Nov. 12.  
#2– Below is the list of requirements that families have to complete prior to coming attending the session.  These requirements may take 
an hour or two to complete.  Doing this will allow you to receive help filling out the actual FAFSA. Click on the link below.
 It is VERY IMPORTANT that you complete the list of requirements prior to attending the workshop.

Important Graduation Information

Seniors who wish to pick up their graduation caps & gowns ahead of time may do so in the Main Office on Tuesday 6/19 and on Wednesday 6/20 during session 2 exams or immediately after school. 
All seniors are required to attend school on 6/21. Seniors will report to homerooms, then will be directed to the CAF for breakfast followed by Graduation Practice. Students will find out where they are sitting that day so that they can tell their guests where to sit at Cure Insurance Arena. Those that did not pick up caps & gowns ahead of time can get them that day. All fines must be taken care of prior to practice – students can close fines at the main office.  Seniors will be dismissed immediately after practice so that they will have enough time to get to Trenton to begin lining up at 2 pm. 

Honors Math Testing/Course Waivers

Honors Math classes at NBTHS require a student to test into the program.  The registration for the Honors Math test is due by June 1, 2018.  Click on the following link for information: Honors Math Testing

Also, teachers are reviewing their recommendations for next year.  If you disagree with your recommendation and want to go into a higher level course, fill out a course waiver by June 1, 2018. Be sure to give the waiver to your counselor.

Parent Access to Naviance

Parents who want to utilize Naviance for college planning with their children can request account access.  Please email your son/daughter’s school counselor if you want  login credentials to access this program.  If interested, will receive an email from Family Connection to complete the process.  Below is a link with email information for the NBTHS Guidance Dept. :

AP Registration

AP Registration is open until Wednesday, February 28 at 9:00am.  All students enrolled in AP classes have received registration materials.  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Latchaw at tlatchaw@nbtschools.org

 

Middlesex County College On-site Admissions

Home
Tuesday, January 30, MCC admissions representatives will return to NBTHS for an onsite admissions day.  Students who have NOT yet applied to MCC will have an opportunity to participate.
Any interested Senior must complete the online application first  but DO NOT Click SUBMIT!!!  Instead, click PRINT and bring it to your school counselor accompanied with a $25 check or money order written out to Middlesex County College.  If the student is on free or reduced lunch, his/her counselor will provide a fee waiver.  The deadline for all applications materials is Monday, January 29.  
On Monday, January 29,  Mrs. Coleman-Cruz from the NBTHS Guidance Office will collect (1) printed application, (2) $25 application fee, check, money order or fee waiver.  On Tuesday, students will receive a pass during homeroom indicating a time they will individually meet with the MCC admissions representative.

Next Year Elective Scheduling Deadline Friday, 1/19 at 3pm

Students in grades 9-11 are required to complete their elective scheduling by Friday, 1/19 at 3pm.  Reminder- all elective choices must be entered into Genesis using either the Student Portal or Parent Portal.  Cooperation with this process is critical!!!

Also, Junior and Senior “Opt Out” forms are due.

Juniors and Seniors: Earn 2.5 Credits In Free Online SAT Prep Course

Juniors and Seniors can enroll in a free SAT prep elective course to earn 2.5 high school credits. Students must successfully complete at least 80% of the course to earn a “P” – passing grade on their transcript.  Students who do not complete at least 80% successfully will earn an “F” – failure on their transcript. 
Students can visit www.staffsprep.com/SATelective to enroll in the course. They will have two options to pick from:
1) October 30th – January 16th
2) January 22nd – May 1st
Deadline to register will be October 28th
